Canada Strikes Back at US with Retaliatory Tariffs
Canada has imposed retaliatory tariffs on $20 billion worth of US goods in response to Trump's latest trade war escalation. The move affects everyday purchases, including seafood, cheese, clothing, cosmetics, and toilet paper. Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne said Canada did not choose this conflict but will stand up for its economic interests.
Canada's measures are designed to match US tariffs and put pressure on American industries and supply chains. The country has also announced a support package worth $7.5 billion in Canadian dollars for workers and businesses affected by the dispute.
Trump had intensified the confrontation earlier this week, threatening new 50% tariffs on Canadian vehicles, auto parts, and steel. He also accused Canada of ripping off American farmers and driving companies out of business.
