Canada Tightens Study Permit Rules for Indian Students
Canada has introduced stricter checks on study permit applications from Indian students, tightening its assessment of financial documents.
The updated guidelines require immigration officers to closely examine both the amount and source of an applicant's funds, with a focus on ensuring that only genuine students capable of supporting themselves for the full duration of their program are granted permits.
The minimum proof of funds requirement remains unchanged, but applicants must now provide six months of bank statements, including the month prior to the application date. This is up from four months previously.
The changes also include new examples of acceptable proof of funds, such as pension income and rental property income. However, a bank draft that can be converted to Canadian dollars has been removed from the list of accepted documents.
