Canada Unveils $28 Billion Trade War Counterattack

The trade war between Canada and the US has escalated, with Ottawa pledging to match Washington's tariffs 'dollar for dollar'.

The figure of C$28 billion is not a tax cheque or a tally of damage already done, but rather the value in Canadian dollars of the goods that will be hit with counter-tariffs from September 8.

This calibrated response by Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney aims to protect Canadian workers, and the targeted list includes steel, dairy, appliances, agricultural and farm equipment, pulp and paper, and electronics - all politically sensitive US exports.
