Canada Unveils New $20 Bill Featuring King Charles III
The Bank of Canada has unveiled a new design for its $20 bill, set to enter circulation in February 2027. The vertical orientation is a departure from previous horizontal versions of the currency.
This new note marks a significant change as it will be the first Canadian banknote to feature King Charles III, replacing Queen Elizabeth II's portrait that has appeared on 18 different notes since 1935.
The reverse side of the bill showcases an image of the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France, located at the site of the 1917 Battle of Vimy Ridge.
The updated polymer banknote includes advanced security features and innovative 3D design. A purple security strip causes images to appear to move when tilted, including a maple leaf that pulses to a darker shade of purple and a spinning band with poppy petals.
