Canada Unveils Nuclear Energy Strategy to Boost Clean Power
The Government of Canada has launched its Nuclear Energy Strategy, aiming to strengthen energy affordability, security, and sustainability at home and abroad. The strategy targets doubling the workforce by 2050, catalyzing billions in private investment, and enabling generational investments in nuclear energy.
Nuclear energy is a crucial component of Canada's future energy mix, providing non-emitting, dependable baseload power. It contributes 13% of the national electricity supply and adds $22 billion to Canada's economy annually through the operation of 17 Canadian CANDU reactors at home and abroad.
The Nuclear Energy Strategy is structured around four pillars: enabling new builds across Canada, being a global supplier and exporter of choice, expanding uranium production and nuclear fuel opportunities, and supporting world-class long-term nuclear waste management.
