Canada Vows Retaliation as US Imposes Tariffs in Trade Deal Collapse
The US and Canada have failed to reach a trade deal, with the White House announcing it will impose 50% tariffs on certain imports from Canada. In response, Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney said his country would retaliate against these new tariffs.
Carney stated that 'Canada will match those tariffs dollar for dollar to protect our workers and businesses.' He added that the Canadian economy is accelerating, with growth expected to be the second-fastest in the G7 over the next two years.
The Prime Minister mentioned that Canada's exports to non-US markets are on track to double over the next decade, while foreign direct investment in the country is at its highest level in two decades.
