Canada's $3.3 Billion Tourism Boycott Slams US Economy
A recent report from the Canadian government reveals that Canadian tourists have cost the US $3.3 billion in tourism dollars due to a boycott of the United States sparked by President Donald Trump's policies and rhetoric.
The boycott, which reached its lowest point in July with a 30% year-on-year decline in visits, is attributed to Trump's return to the White House and his imposition of tariffs on Canada. The report notes that this decline marks the deepest and most sustained drop in border crossings from the US since the months following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The Canadian government's study points out that Canadians have a widespread distaste for Trump's rhetoric, particularly his comment about wanting Canada to become the 51st state. In response, Prime Minister Mark Carney told Trump 'It's not for sale. Won't be for sale, ever.'
