Canada's Banknotes Get a Royal Update with King Charles III
The Bank of Canada is undergoing significant changes to its banknotes over the next few years. One notable change will be the introduction of King Charles III on the $20 bill, replacing his mother Queen Elizabeth II, who has been featured on Canadian currency for decades.
However, the current $5 bill featuring Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Canada's seventh prime minister, won't be around much longer. He'll be replaced by Terry Fox, a civil rights pioneer, in the next version of the $5 bill, which is still being designed.
The government has announced that Sir Wilfrid Laurier will move to a future version of the $50 note, although a release date hasn't been announced yet. The current $50 bill features William Lyon Mackenzie King, Canada's longest-serving prime minister.
