Canada's Banks Pledge Billions Amid Surge in Capital Commitments
TD Bank has pledged to invest C$150 billion over the next five years in financing, advisory services, and capital markets. This move is part of a broader surge of capital commitments from Canadian financial heavyweights.
In addition to TD's pledge, other major banks have made similar commitments. The Bank of Montreal plans to put up to C$70 billion towards various projects over 10 years, while the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce has committed C$2 billion in loans for small and medium-sized defense firms over five years.
Royal Bank of Canada is also investing in innovative companies through a venture capital vehicle worth $1 billion. This influx of capital is expected to boost economic growth and create new opportunities across various sectors, including energy, critical minerals, infrastructure, defense, aerospace, digital, and AI.
