Canada's Carney Pursues EU Alliance Amid Sovereignty Fears

Mark Carney's affection for the European Union is well-known, having been accused of aiding and abetting Project Fear during the Brexit referendum. As governor of the Bank of England, he failed to stop Britain's exit from the EU.

Now, as Prime Minister of Canada, Carney is making overtures to integrate his country into the EU, a move that would likely result in a loss of sovereignty and independence greater than anything surrendered to America. The Wall Street Journal reported that Carney is trying to negotiate 'associate membership' with the EU, although this status does not exist.

Carney downplayed the report, stating that his government seeks only a 'unique alliance' with the EU. The Prime Minister hinted at these plans in a speech, saying Canada would begin discussions with the EU 'to build a much stronger and deeper security and economic partnership.'
