Canada's Clean Energy Potential on Display but Ambition Meets Reality
At the Canada Investment Summit in Toronto, Clean Energy Canada's Ollie Sheldrick-Moyle highlighted the country's potential to become a clean energy superpower. The summit deal book features over 160 listed projects, with roughly half in clean economy sectors.
Critical mineral projects are prominent, reflecting Canada's potential to supply resources and value-added products for global clean technologies. However, many of these projects are still in the early stages of development, and their forecast values should be viewed as indicators of ambition rather than guaranteed economic outcomes.
Sheldrick-Moyle emphasized that converting this potential into real projects, growth, and jobs will require both private and public investment. He also stressed the need for government support and alignment on policy, regulation, and infrastructure planning to overcome challenges and barriers.
