Canada's Community Pharmacies: Unsung Heroes of Healthcare
Community pharmacies in Canada are more than just places to fill prescriptions. According to Billy Cheung, Head of Pharmacy at Pharmasave, they play a vital role in both Canadians' health and local economies.
A recent study commissioned by the Neighbourhood Pharmacy Association of Canada (NPAC) found that community pharmacy contributes nearly $23 billion annually to Canada's economy. The sector supports over 273,000 jobs and generates approximately $6.3 billion in annual tax revenues.
The study also revealed that nearly two-thirds of Canada's pharmacy locations are independently owned or banner pharmacies. This is significant because independent pharmacist owners have a deeper understanding of local needs and can make decisions about services and investments based on those needs.
