Canada's Economy Beats Expectations with 0.3% May Growth
Canada's economy grew by 0.3% in May, exceeding expectations of a 0.2% increase.
The growth rate indicates that the country is on track to post its best annualized quarterly performance in over three years, with a projected 3.4% growth in the second quarter.
This news comes as a surprise to some economists, as the Bank of Canada had forecasted a 2.5% growth rate for the same period.
According to Statistics Canada, goods-producing industries expanded by 0.6%, while services-producing industries posted a 0.2% gain.
Royce Mendes, managing director and head of macro strategy at Desjardins, attributed the economy's resilience to its ability to navigate uncertainty related to trade with the United States.
