Canada's Economy Sees Healthy Growth in Q2
The Canadian economy experienced a healthy growth rate in the second quarter of this year. According to fresh data from Statistics Canada, real gross domestic product rose by 3.3% during this period, marking the fastest quarterly pace of growth since early 2023.
This growth was driven by several key sectors, including exports and residential investment. Exports jumped by 3.6%, with a notable rebound in shipments of passenger cars and light trucks, which had declined in the previous two quarters. Residential investment also provided a significant boost to the economy as the resale housing market heated up over the spring, particularly in Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia.
Business capital investment was another sector that contributed to the growth, increasing by 2.3% in the second quarter, snapping a five-quarter streak of decline. This uptick in business spending suggests that companies are feeling more confident about the future prospects of the economy.
