Canada's Economy Sees Surge in Job Growth

Canada's economic tide has turned following the July jobs report, which showed an unexpected surge in job growth. The country added 75,000 new jobs last month, exceeding expectations and bringing the unemployment rate down to 6.4%, its lowest level in two years.

The private sector and self-employment led the gains, with a total of 21,000 additional jobs in wholesale and retail trade. This marked a partial reversal of the downward trend earlier this year due to uncertainty surrounding the US-Canada trade situation.

Dr. Tu Nguyen, economist and ESG director for RSM Canada, notes that population growth, and therefore workforce growth, has not only slowed but actually reversed in recent times.
