Canada's Economy Shows Signs of Rebound with 0.3% Growth in May
Statistics Canada reported that the economy grew by 0.3% in May, exceeding its initial estimate of 0.1% growth for the month. This follows a 0.6% increase in April and sets the stage for a solid rebound in the second quarter.
The mining sector led the way with a second consecutive month of growth, as some maintenance work was completed early or deferred due to weather conditions. The real estate industry also contributed to growth, with offices of real estate agents and brokers being particularly busy as the spring housing market warmed up in Ontario and British Columbia.
Looking ahead, StatCan's flash estimate predicts a 0.2% gain in June, which would bring the quarterly growth rate to 3.4% on an annualized basis. This represents a significant rebound from the mild contraction seen in the first three months of the year.
