Canada's Economy Surges Past Forecasts in Second Quarter
Canada's economy rebounded in the second quarter of this year, exceeding expectations and easing recession concerns. According to Statistics Canada's preliminary industry-based estimate, the country's April-to-June output increased at an annualized rate of 3.7%, surpassing the Bank of Canada's forecast of 2.5%.
The stronger-than-anticipated growth was driven by a 1% expansion in the oil-and-gas complex, as well as widespread gains across various industries. Energy production was the standout sector, with mining, quarrying, and oil extraction rising by 1%. Other sectors, such as goods-producing industries and services-producing industries, also saw increases.
Despite this positive news, Bank of Canada officials remain cautious about the sustainability of the rebound. In a recent summary of deliberations, some officials expressed concerns that the growth may not be sustainable due to ongoing trade uncertainty.
