Canada's economy has reported a stronger-than-expected growth of 0.3 percent in May, according to official data released on Friday.

The growth was driven by the mining, quarrying and oil and gas sector, which expanded by 1.0 percent in May, with the oil and gas extraction subsector rising by 0.7 percent due to increased oil sands extraction.

Goods-producing industries as a whole grew by 0.6 percent, while services-producing industries posted a 0.2 percent gain.

The Statistics Canada data also revised April's growth up to 0.6 percent from 0.5 percent, the highest month-on-month gain since July 2025.
