Canada's Emissions Trajectory Falls More Than 20 Years Behind 2030 Target

Canada's path to net-zero emissions by mid-century is slipping further away. According to recent projections from 440 Megatonnes, the country is now more than 20 years behind its 2030 emissions target.

The analysis found that at the current rate, Canada will be lucky to hit its 2030 target in 2050. This means net-zero emissions are nowhere in sight.

Higher emissions come with rising costs. A changing climate is already a constant drag on Canada's economy, as shown by the Canadian Climate Institute's analysis of climate damages and the new edition of Canada's Changing Climate.
