Statistics Canada's website experienced an outage that prevented access to key GDP data for several hours on August 28, 2026. The disruption occurred just before the scheduled release of second-quarter gross domestic product numbers at 8:30 am Ottawa time.

The economy expanded at a 3.3% annualized rate in the second quarter, according to preliminary figures released from a media lockup. However, analysts and market watchers were left frustrated as broader access to details was limited due to the website outage.

Although the economic data was available for those with prior access to it, many Canadian data users were unable to view the information on the Statistics Canada website during this time.
