Canada's Immigration System Needs Overhaul Amid Economic Challenges
RBC has issued a report warning that Canada's immigration system needs to be overhauled due to ongoing economic challenges. The system, which was once considered reliable, has been less so in recent years as it struggled to cope with a massive influx of new arrivals.
The Express Entry system, one of the most popular ways for immigrants to come to Canada, is not working as intended, according to the report. Changes introduced in 2022 have led to frequent rule changes and a weakened points system that prioritizes certain occupations over skills and experience.
The report notes that population growth has been irregular, with huge increases between 2022 and 2024 followed by a decline in 2025. This has created an unstable environment, which is not good for the economy.
