Canada's Inflation Holds Steady at 3% Amid Ongoing Energy Cost Pressures
The annual inflation rate in Canada remained steady at 3% in August, matching market expectations.
According to Statistics Canada, energy costs continued to drive prices up, with gasoline prices rising 22.8% in August following a 25.7% increase in the previous month due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) decreased by 0.1% from July's reading, while grocery prices rose 2.8% in August, down from a 3.1% increase in July and below the headline inflation rate for the first time in over two years.
The Bank of Canada's core inflation rates, which are used to track underlying price trends, remained close to their target at 1.9% (trimmed-mean core rate) and 2% (median core rate), as expected.
