Canada's Inflation Rate Holds Steady at 3% Amid Global Economic Uncertainty
CANADA'S INFLATION RATE STAYS STEADY AT 3% DESPITE GASOLINE PRICE SURGE
The Canadian inflation rate remained at 3% in August, with gasoline prices rising by 22.8% year-over-year after a 25.7% increase in July. However, this growth was slower than expected due to ongoing global events. The Statistics Canada data release on Monday showed that if the category of gasoline prices was excluded, the inflation rate would have been 2.4% in August and 2.2% in July.
The slowdown in gasoline price increases was offset by higher travel tour costs, which rose by 26.1% annually, as well as rent prices, which edged up by 2.8%. Grocery store prices also saw a slight decrease, with food purchased from stores increasing by 2.8% year-over-year after a 3.1% rise in July.
Dairy products led the slowdown in grocery store inflation, with prices rising by only 0.7% annually in August compared to a 3.1% increase in July due to slower price increases for cheese and yogurt. Core inflation measures remained stable, with CPI-median staying flat at 2% in August and July, while CPI-trim held steady at 1.9%.
