Canada's Job Market Under Scrutiny Amid Escalating Trade War
Statistics Canada is set to release its labour force survey for August on September 4th. The report comes as the country faces an escalating trade war with the United States, following talks breaking down last month and President Donald Trump imposing fresh tariffs on $28 billion of Canadian goods.
A Reuters poll of economists predicts a relatively modest increase in employment, forecasting that employers added 15,000 jobs in August. The unemployment rate is expected to remain unchanged at 6.4 per cent, according to LSEG Data & Analytics.
The Canadian economy had previously shown resilience, adding 75,000 jobs in July. However, the latest report may provide insight into how the country's job market is faring amidst trade tensions and other economic challenges.
