Canada's Trade War Escalation Puts Economy at Risk

The Canada-US trade dispute has escalated into import bans on both sides of the border.

Prime Minister Mark Carney warned Canadians that reducing their dependence on the US would come at a cost, which he acknowledged was honest but not transparent.

A recent survey found 75% of Canadians favor holding firm against the US even if economic costs persist, but 68% consider a higher household risk of job loss unacceptable.

The US will ban most Canadian alcohol, including beer and wine, starting September 29, while additional Canadian cheeses face a 50% tariff.
