Canada's TSX Index Rises on Energy Stocks Amid Flat US Markets
Canada's main stock index, the S&P/TSX composite index, rose in late-morning trading on August 10, 2026. The gain was driven by increases in energy stocks. The index ended the session up 62 points at 36,443.23.
In contrast, U.S. markets were relatively flat. The Dow Jones industrial average dipped 0.46 points to 54,036.47. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 index edged up 5.38 points to 7,763.02.
The Canadian dollar's value remained steady, trading at 71.77 cents US compared to 71.72 cents US on the previous Friday. Oil prices also held firm, with the September crude oil contract increasing by $2.69 to $80.87 per barrel.
