Canadian Banks Hike Dividends Amid Strong Earnings

Two prominent Canadian companies have raised their dividend payouts, indicating confidence in their earnings and growth prospects. National Bank of Canada (TSX: NA) and Thomson Reuters (TSX: TRI) both increased their quarterly dividends.

National Bank of Canada, a banking company with operations in personal and commercial banking, wealth management, capital markets, and international financial services, raised its quarterly dividend by 6% to $1.32 per share. The bank's net income rose 38% year-over-year (YoY) to about $1.2 billion in the second quarter of fiscal 2026, with adjusted earnings advancing 13% to $3.23 per share.

Thomson Reuters, a provider of software and information to legal, accounting, compliance, and media professionals, raised its annualized dividend by 10% to US$2.62, marking its 33rd consecutive year of dividend increases. The company's first-quarter revenue rose 10% YoY to US$2.1 billion, with adjusted earnings climbing 10% to US$1.23.

Both companies have a solid financial base and strong fundamentals, which supports their ability to continue growing and increasing their payouts.
