Canadian Business World Braces for Volatile Week of Releases
The Canadian business world is set for a week of significant releases and updates. On Tuesday, Statistics Canada will announce its figures for international merchandise trade in June, building on May's record-breaking surplus of $4.2 billion. This marks the largest trade surplus in four years.
On Wednesday, Shopify is expected to release its second-quarter results, with founder and CEO Tobi Lutke under scrutiny after proposing that Canada eliminate voting rights for those not paying income tax and increase votes for high-income earners to up to five.
The following day, Restaurant Brands International will report on its second quarter, facing challenges from rising chicken and beef prices and increased competition in the cold beverage market. Energy companies Suncor Energy Inc., South Bow Corp., and Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. will also release quarterly results amidst global energy market volatility due to the ongoing war in the Middle East.
On Friday, Statistics Canada's labour force survey for July is set to be released, providing insight into the country's job market. In June, the economy added 18,000 jobs as a better market for young workers and the FIFA World Cup contributed to a decrease in unemployment rates.
