Canadian Dollar Defies Expectations Amid Inflation and Tariff Uncertainty
The Canadian dollar has shown signs of strength in recent trading sessions, with USD/CAD declining by nearly -0.43%. This bearish bias is attributed to Canada's inflation data and expectations of progress in tariff negotiations.
Canada's CPI came in at 3.00%, beating estimates of a 2.9% reading. This rebound from the previous 2.8% indicates that inflationary pressures remain sticky, posing a challenge for the Bank of Canada to contain price levels.
The market is pricing in nearly a 70% probability that the interest rate will remain unchanged at 2.25%. However, if inflation fails to cool, the central bank may adopt a more hawkish tone.
