Canadian Dollar Falls as Inflation Exceeds Forecasts
The Canadian dollar depreciated by a minor margin of 0.02% against the US dollar after inflation exceeded forecasts in July, according to data released by Statistics Canada.
The country's headline annual inflation rate accelerated from 2.8% in June to 3.0% in July, surpassing analysts' expectations of 2.9%. The increase was largely driven by a 25.7% surge in gasoline prices.
While this acceleration remains within the Bank of Canada's target range of 1%-3%, it may be seen as a warning sign of rising prices. Market participants are now focused on the ongoing US-Iran conflict, which could exert upward pressure on inflation levels if energy supply disruptions persist.
