Canadian Dollar Holds Steady Amid Trade Talks
The Canadian dollar held steady on Tuesday morning, lacking clear direction in its trading. At 8:40 a.m. CDT, the currency was valued at US$0.7210 or US$1=C$1.3870, compared to Monday's close of US$0.7212 or US$1=C$1.3865.
A looming deadline for trade negotiations between Canada and the U.S. kept investors cautious, as a 50% tariff on nearly C$20 billion of Canadian goods was possible if an agreement wasn't reached.
The value of crude oil also saw some movement, with West Texas Intermediate rising by 0.6% to US$84.21 per barrel in early activity.
