Canadian Dollar Rises with Tariff Countermeasures
The Canadian dollar rose on Tuesday morning as markets reopened after the Labour Day long weekend.
This marked the first day of Canadian counter-tariffs matching those imposed by the United States, with $28 billion worth of U.S. imports hit with 50% surcharges including dairy products, plywood, and sunscreen.
The CAD/USD exchange rate was at US$0.7255 or US$1=C$1.3884 as of 8:39 am CDT, compared to Friday's close of US$0.7225 or US$1=C$1.3840.
