Canadian Dollar Soars on Surging Inflation Data

The Canadian Dollar strengthened after hotter-than-expected inflation data was released.

CPI rose 3.0% year-over-year in July, above market forecasts of 2.9%, and up from 2.8% previously.

The Bank of Canada's core CPI measure also picked up, rising 2.3% year-over-year, up from 2.1%, while the monthly reading increased 0.2% following a 0.1% rise previously.
