The Canadian dollar steadied near its seven-week high against the US dollar on Thursday as investors awaited key jobs data from both countries.

The loonie was trading nearly unchanged at 1.4015 per US dollar, or 71.35 US cents, after touching its strongest intraday level since June 17 at 1.3991.

The US dollar clawed back some recent losses against a basket of major currencies as investors looked ahead to Friday's US jobs report and awaited more details on the proposed US-Iran deal.

Canadian employment data is also due on Friday, with analysts expecting a jobs gain of 15,000 in July and the unemployment rate to remain at 6.5%.
