Canadian Inflation Hits 3 Percent Amid Gas Price Surge
Canada's inflation rate has reached 3 percent in July, exceeding the top of the Bank of Canada's control range of 1 to 3 percent. The primary driver of this increase was a significant surge in gasoline prices, which rose by 25.7 percent.
This is the third consecutive month that inflation excluding gasoline has remained at 2.2 percent, indicating that there are no broadening price pressures beyond the energy sector.
The Bank of Canada will need to ensure that inflation expectations remain well-anchored in order for it to continue looking through the persistent energy shock.
