Canadian Inflation Hits 3.0% as Gas Prices Surge

Canada's annual inflation rate rose to 3.0% in July, largely driven by increasing gasoline prices. According to Statistics Canada, the surge in gas prices was fueled by renewed geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region. This increase follows a brief slowdown in June, when the inflation rate eased to 2.8%. Despite overall inflationary pressures, Canadians found some relief at the grocery store, with the annual price increase for food purchased from stores slowing to 3.1%.

The Bank of Canada will consider these inflation figures before its upcoming interest rate decision on September 2. Regionally, Nova Scotia recorded the highest inflation rate in the country at 5.0%, up from 4.7% in June. Alberta experienced a significant spike, with its rate jumping to 4.2% in July.
