Canadian Inflation Holds Steady at 3.0%, Travel Tour Prices Soar
Canada's annual inflation rate remained unchanged in August at 3.0%, matching July's increase, according to Statistics Canada.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 3.0% year over year, while the seasonally adjusted index increased by 0.2%. Excluding gasoline, inflation increased to 2.4% from 2.2% in July.
Gasoline prices were still higher than a year earlier at 22.8%, but this marked a slowdown from the 25.7% rise recorded in July. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East contributed to elevated gasoline prices.
Travel tour prices surged by 26.1% from August 2025, partly due to a 'base-year effect' caused by Canadian travel to the United States declining sharply in 2025.
