Canadian Inflation Rises as Tariff Uncertainty Looms
The July inflation rate in Canada rose to 3.0%, exceeding expectations and fueling concerns about price pressures.
The jump was largely driven by a 25.7% surge in gasoline prices, as well as increased travel costs related to the World Cup festivities.
However, underlying inflation remains relatively calm, with core CPI at 1.9% and median CPI at 2.0%, suggesting that the rise is concentrated rather than widespread.
The focus now shifts to Wednesday's tariff deadline, as the US threatens 50% tariffs on approximately $20 billion of Canadian imports, raising risks for the Canadian economy.
