Canadian lumber company Interfor Corp. announced plans to relocate its corporate support functions from Burnaby, B.C. to the United States.

This move comes as the Canadian economy added a strong 75,000 new jobs in July, with the unemployment rate dropping to 6.4 per cent - its lowest level in two years and the third consecutive monthly decrease.

Meanwhile, Advanced Micro Devices Inc., a Silicon Valley-based chip giant, is acquiring Toronto-founded Taalas Inc. for an undisclosed price. This marks another instance of high-potential Canadian semiconductor startups being acquired by American companies or leaving for the United States.
