Canadian Markets Soar with TSX Up Over 450 Points
The S&P/TSX composite index surged more than 450 points on September 3, 2026, as financial and technology stocks drove the rally. The index closed at 36,548.16, marking a significant gain for Canadian investors.
In New York, major US stock markets also experienced gains, with the Dow Jones industrial average up over 624 points to 53,686.94. The S&P 500 index and Nasdaq composite were also higher, trading at 7,740.75 and 26,548.82 respectively.
The Canadian dollar strengthened against the US dollar, reaching 72.53 cents compared to 72.13 cents on Wednesday. Oil prices climbed as well, with the October crude oil contract up $1.36 to $92.37 per barrel. Gold also saw an increase, with the December gold contract trading at $4,544.60 an ounce.
