Canadian Services Economy Contracts Amid Escalating Trade Tensions
Canada's services economy has taken a hit in August, contracting at its steepest pace in six months. The S&P Global Canada Services PMI fell to 46.8 from 49.1 in July, marking its lowest level since February.
This decline is attributed to rising trade tensions with the U.S., as well as ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has led to increased uncertainty and reluctance among clients to commit to new contracts.
New business volumes fell to their lowest level since January at 46.1, down from 48.4 in July. Confidence about the future is also at its lowest level in over a year, with rising prices seen as a threat to future business performance.
