Canadian Stock Futures Flatline as TSX Nears Week-End Mute
Canadian stock futures were flat on Friday morning as they consolidated gains from the previous session. The S&P/TSX Composite Index was poised to close out the week nearly flat, balancing a strong commodity-driven rebound against cross-border trade friction and heightened energy-driven inflation risks.
The index saw a significant boost on Thursday, rising 1.5% as soaring commodity prices lifted heavy-weight materials and mining listings. This surge offset earlier weakness in industrials and rail operators.
Market participants had been evaluating the Bank of Canada's (BoC) monetary policy stance after it maintained its target overnight rate at 2.25%. The central bank noted that strong second-quarter GDP growth reduced the need for monetary easing, but elevated global prices and new U.S. tariff threats required a cautious approach.
The Canadian dollar held near one-week highs around 1.3930 per greenback, finding support from firm energy prices and steady domestic interest rates.
