Canadian Stock Index Soars as US Markets Fluctuate
On Wednesday, Canada's main stock index, the S&P/TSX composite index, rose by over 136 points to reach 36,612.43. This increase was driven primarily by gains in basic materials.
The Dow Jones industrial average in New York took a hit, falling by 30.13 points to 53,761.72. However, the S&P 500 index experienced a modest gain of 15.74 points to reach 7,743.94, and the Nasdaq composite rose by 122.65 points to 26,568.09.
The Canadian dollar also saw a slight increase, trading at 71.84 US cents compared to its value on Tuesday, which was 71.80 US cents.
