Canadian Stock Index Soars Over 200 Points Amid Tech Boom

Canada's main stock index, the S&P/TSX composite, surged in late-morning trading on July 24, 2026. It gained 224.46 points to reach 35,417.12, boosted by growth in the financial and tech sectors.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average also climbed, rising 355.65 points to 52,067.30. The S&P 500 index increased by 42.29 points to 7,450.59, while the Nasdaq composite added 7.90 points to 25,145.59.

The Canadian dollar traded at a value of 71.02 US cents compared to 71.01 cents on Thursday. Meanwhile, oil prices declined as the September crude contract fell by $2.81 to $89.38 per barrel. However, gold prices rose, with the August contract increasing by $22.00 to $4,072.20 an ounce.
