Canadian Stock Market Falls Pre-BOC Rate Decision
Canada's stock market index futures fell modestly on Wednesday after a sharp sell-off in the previous session, as investors adopted a defensive stance ahead of the Bank of Canada's monetary policy announcement.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index futures dropped by 0.14% to 2,103.70 points, following a 1.23% decline on Tuesday that left it near its lowest point in almost a month.
Broad-based selling across materials, technology, and industrial listings weighed on the index, while energy producers managed to post targeted gains.
The Canadian dollar, which has been trading around 1.3980 per US dollar, showed some resilience due to firming crude oil prices and expectations that the Bank of Canada will keep its key interest rate unchanged at 2.25% for a seventh consecutive meeting.
