Canadian Travel Costs Soar 15.2% as Tour Prices Skyrocket
Travel costs for Canadians rose sharply in July as prices for travel tours and air transportation increased by double-digit percentages, according to Statistics Canada. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) data showed that tour costs surged 15.2% year-over-year, outpacing the 6.8% increase in June.
The steep rise in tour prices was attributed partly to higher hotel and flight costs to US destination cities coinciding with the hosting of World Cup matches. Air transportation also became more expensive, climbing 12.0% compared to July 2025, following a 9.6% year-over-year increase in June.
The statistics highlighted growing cost pressures for Canadians traveling during the peak summer season, particularly those booking flights and packaged travel. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East disrupted oil supplies, forcing airlines to navigate around key airspace closures, which contributed to higher airfare prices.
