Canadian Workers Fear Job Losses Amid Ongoing Trade War
A new survey from the Angus Reid Institute has found that nearly 40% of Canadian workers fear losing their jobs due to the ongoing trade war between Canada and the US. This comes as Prime Minister Mark Carney's decision to walk away from trade talks with the US has been met with widespread support, with 76% of Canadians backing his move.
The survey found that 13% of Canadians are 'very concerned about losing their own job', while another 25% expressed some level of anxiety. Industry experts predict that no trade deal with the US could cost the Canadian economy as many as 90,000 jobs.
Support for Carney's decision remains strong across party lines, with 53% of Conservatives saying it was right to walk away from a bad deal. Canadians also appear optimistic about emerging stronger from the trade war, with 64% believing Canada will come out on top.
