The Bank of Canada has unveiled a new vertical $20 banknote featuring King Charles on it. This is Canada's first banknote to feature Charles, whose portrait replaces that of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Charles' portrait is framed by leaves and flowers, which the Bank of Canada says are inspired by his lifetime dedication to the environment.

The design also features the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France on the other side, as a tribute to Canada's contributions and sacrifices in military conflicts throughout its history.

Canadians have been sharing their thoughts online about the new design, with many expressing disappointment that another British monarch is featured rather than a beloved Canadian figure.
