Canadians Label US an Enemy Nation Under Trump
A survey conducted by Leger found that a plurality of Canadians now view the US as an 'enemy' nation due to President Donald Trump's repeated attacks on their economy and national sovereignty.
The poll, released in August 2026, showed that 41% of Canadians consider the US an enemy, compared to 22% who see it as an ally and 22% as a neutral country.
This is a significant increase from June 2025, when only 26% of Canadians said they viewed the US as an enemy.
Trump's trade war is a major driver of negative opinion among Canadians, with 63% saying they expect his tariffs to have either a moderate or major impact on their personal financial situations.
