Carney: Canada Remains Key Partner for US Amid Trade Tensions

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney emphasized the importance of Canada's relationship with the United States, despite recent trade tensions. Speaking at the Canada Investment Summit in Toronto on September 15, Carney stated that the two nations have always maintained close ties 'even at times of disagreement.'

'These arrangements work when we engage as true partners that respect each other's traditions and sovereignty,' he said.

Carney acknowledged that US trade hostility is a new reality, but stressed that Canada must continue to diversify its economy. He warned that roughly two-thirds of all Canadian exports head south of the border, making it difficult to replace the US market.

The prime minister highlighted key sectors attractive to global capital, including critical minerals and energy. He particularly emphasized plans to build a new pipeline to the Pacific coast, which would carry at least one million barrels of low-emission Alberta oil per day to Asian markets.
